Aspera Collective strengthens opportunities for youth and families impacted by trauma, violence, instability, and system involvement. Through community-based programs, advocacy, education, and supportive services, we invest in practical solutions that create safety, strengthen relationships, build resilience, and expand pathways to long-term stability and independence.

Aspera Collective develops and supports community-based programs designed to improve stability, safety, opportunity, and long-term outcomes for youth and families impacted by trauma, violence, poverty, housing instability, child welfare involvement, juvenile justice involvement, and other significant barriers.

**Youth Residential Stability and Support**
Aspera Collective supports small, community-based residential programs for adolescents and young adults who need safe, stable housing and consistent adult relationships. Programs emphasize a home-like environment rather than an institutional model and incorporate trauma-informed care, relationship-based support, individualized planning, education, employment preparation, life skills, community involvement, and successful transitions to greater independence.

**Youth Development and Mentoring**
Programs connect young people with consistent, supportive adults and meaningful opportunities to develop confidence, healthy relationships, decision-making skills, self-advocacy, accountability, and resilience. Activities may include mentoring, recreation, community engagement, leadership opportunities, enrichment experiences, and individualized goal development.

**Transition to Adulthood and Independent Living**
Aspera Collective provides and supports programming for older adolescents and young adults preparing for independence. Services may include financial literacy, budgeting, banking, employment readiness, transportation skills, housing preparation, cooking and household management, educational planning, identification and documentation assistance, healthcare navigation, and development of supportive community connections.

**Education, Employment and Workforce Development**
Programs help youth identify educational and career pathways that match their strengths and interests. Services may include school engagement, tutoring and academic support, GED or alternative education connections, vocational exploration, job-readiness training, résumé and interview preparation, employment placement support, transportation assistance, workplace clothing and equipment, and partnerships with local employers and training programs.

**Trauma-Informed Prevention and Intervention**
Aspera Collective develops programs that recognize the impact of adverse childhood experiences, family violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation, community violence, and chronic instability. Services focus on creating physical and emotional safety, strengthening protective factors, improving healthy coping and self-regulation, and helping individuals build sustainable support systems.

**Violence Prevention, Victim Advocacy and Education**
Programs may address domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking, exploitation, trafficking, and other forms of interpersonal violence through prevention education, community awareness, advocacy, professional training, resource navigation, and survivor-centered support. Programming emphas

Target Audience

Youth and young adults ages 13–24 who have experienced trauma, violence, housing instability, foster care or child welfare involvement, juvenile justice involvement, or other barriers to stability and successful transition to adulthood, as well as families and communities impacted by violence and trauma.

Current projects

**Compass Homes Kansas – Youth Residential Stability Initiative**
Aspera Collective is supporting the development and launch of Compass Homes Kansas, a small, relationship-based residential model for adolescents with child welfare and/or juvenile justice involvement who need safe, stable, community-based placement. The initiative is designed for youth who may have experienced placement disruption, trauma, family instability, or difficulty succeeding in traditional residential settings.

The model emphasizes small home environments, consistent supportive adults, trauma-informed and relationship-based care, individualized growth planning, education and employment support, life-skills development, recreation, community connection, and preparation for adulthood. Current development activities include residential home preparation, safety improvements, furnishings and equipment, staff recruitment and training, licensing and regulatory compliance, program development, transportation capacity, technology, and establishment of community partnerships.

**Transition-to-Adulthood and Opportunity Supports**
Aspera Collective is developing practical supports for adolescents and young adults transitioning toward independence. Planned services include employment readiness, financial literacy, education and vocational connections, transportation assistance, identification and documentation support, household and independent-living skills, mentoring, and individualized assistance with barriers that can interfere with successful transition to adulthood.

**Youth Opportunity and Enrichment**
Aspera Collective is developing flexible opportunity-based supports that allow young people to participate in experiences often unavailable to youth experiencing placement instability or economic hardship. These may include recreation, arts and cultural activities, sports, educational experiences, employment-related expenses, clothing and equipment, technology, community activities, and other opportunities that strengthen confidence, belonging, skills, and positive community connections.

**Trauma and Violence Prevention Education**
Aspera Collective is developing community education and prevention initiatives addressing trauma, interpersonal violence, healthy relationships, victim advocacy, and the long-term impact of violence on youth and families. This work builds upon community-based education and advocacy efforts and is intended to strengthen both individual and community responses to trauma and violence.

**Community Partnership and Capacity Development**
Aspera Collective is actively developing partnerships with child-serving organizations, juvenile justice and child welfare stakeholders, schools, employers, community organizations, behavioral health providers, and other partners. **Build and Sustain Small, Relationship-Based Residential Options**
Develop and support safe, home-like residential programs for adolescents and young adults who need alternatives to institutional or highly restrictive settings, with particular attention to youth experiencing placement disruption or complex barriers to stable placement.

**Improve Stability and Reduce Placement Disruption**
Increase continuity in housing, education, relationships, and community connections for youth involved with child welfare and juvenile justice systems. Programs will focus on addressing the underlying factors that contribute to repeated placement changes, crisis placements, and unsuccessful transitions.

**Strengthen Youth Connections to Supportive Adults and Community**
Ensure young people have opportunities to develop lasting relationships with trustworthy adults, mentors, employers, educators, and community members. Aspera Collective seeks to build natural support networks that remain meaningful beyond a youth’s involvement in formal services.

**Prepare Young People for Successful Adulthood**
Expand access to education, employment, financial literacy, transportation, housing preparation, household management, self-advocacy, decision-making, and other practical skills necessary for increasing independence and long-term stability.

**Expand Education and Employment Opportunities**

**Heather Dean — Founder & Executive Director**
Provides executive leadership, strategic direction, program development, community partnerships, grant development, and organizational oversight for Aspera Collective. Heather brings extensive experience in victim advocacy, child welfare, juvenile justice, family support, trauma-informed practice, and community-based program development.

**Compass Homes Kansas — Residential Program Partner**
Compass Homes Kansas serves as a developing residential initiative aligned with Aspera Collective's mission to improve stability and outcomes for system-involved youth. Residential program leadership and staff will oversee day-to-day operations, youth services, regulatory compliance, safety, documentation, and coordination with referring agencies and community partners.

**Program and Community Partners — Developing**

Current and anticipated funding needs include:

**Program Start-Up and Expansion**
Funding for the development and launch of new youth-serving programs, expansion of residential and community-based services, licensing and start-up expenses, program materials, professional services, and implementation costs.

**Residential Facilities and Capital Improvements**
Funding to prepare safe, welcoming, home-like residential environments, including renovations, accessibility and safety improvements, security systems, fire and life-safety equipment, furnishings, appliances, bedroom furniture, outdoor spaces, recreational areas, and other facility improvements.

**Staffing and Workforce Development**
Support for recruitment, salaries, benefits, background checks, staff development, professional certifications, trauma-informed training, crisis prevention and de-escalation training, youth development training, and continuing education.

**Transportation**
Funding for vehicles, vehicle acquisition or leasing, insurance, fuel, maintenance, and transportation assistance to ensure youth can access school, employment, healthcare, family connections, recreation, and community activities.

**Education and Employment**
Support for tutoring, educational materials, technology, vocational training, employment preparation, work clothing and equipment, certification fees, employment transportation, financial literacy, and other services that help young people successfully enter the workforce or continue their education.
